Victories
Michael Diederich has successfully handled over 600 employment discrimination matters (e.g., gender, age, race, national origin, disability). He has successfully tried several federal court civil rights cases to verdict, including a pregnancy discrimination trial, Blake v. Nyack ($190,000 verdict and reinstatement of employment), and a civil rights case (Anderson v. Osborne) resulting in a $650,000 jury verdict for his client. He recently settled a high-profile, precedent-setting civil rights case against a municipality, the Town of Chester, for $3.75 million (Sherman v Town of Chester, 752 F3d 554 (2d Cir 2014))
Mr. Diederich also favorably influenced the U.S. Supreme Court through my amicus curiae briefs in C&A Carbone, Inc. v. Town of Clarkstown, 511 U.S. 383 (1994); United Haulers Assn., Inc. v. Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Mgmt. Auth., 550 U.S. 330 (2007) and Town of Chester, N.Y. v. Laroe Estates, Inc., 137 S. Ct. 1645 (2017). He has successfully represented individuals and small businessmen against state governmental administrative action (Matter of Sylvia Wright, Sup. Ct. NY Cty 2019; Matter of Executive Cleaning Services Corp. v. N.Y.S. Dept. of Labor, 3d Dept 2021). He has filed petitions for certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court several times.
